what a sensational video with so much value, I am learning everyday on the internet and this was my learning today. Outsourcing has it’s merit but this crowd sourcing is even better by the sounds of it.

Great post and what a great time for entrepreneurs! I would also like to add that technology enables effective and efficient management of distant delegates which makes it less stressing for business owners.
Will this create a new professional group of crowdsource managers?

  5. tobi says:

    whao! thanks for this

  6. Joann Sondy says:

Crowdsourcing creative is just WRONG and devalues all graphic designers who work with numerous companies designing logo at far less than $5k-$10k. Design is not a tournament and the AIGA fully endorsed “NO SPEC!”

Would you crowdsource legal advice or financial advice?

  7. I’m with Joann. Crowdsourcing logos and graphics is just plain wrong.

  8. Lee says:

Hahahaha Joann, this is 2011. You have to grow and put your creativity to work for you in new more useful ways.
Because the world is getting more efficient your gonna have to grow with it.

  9. Magic says:

I can’t agree more with Lee.
Dave is saying that crowdsourcing logos and graphics is plain wrong … – I’m asking you : do you think that is right to charge for a logo 5K or more , and give a delivery time of two weeks ?
My answer is NO , that is in fact miles away from being right….
Thanks God for that new possibilities and people like Tony and Scott, that are making wider public more aware of such tools! Great Stuff Guys. Keep doing your work!

  12. Michael Goydich says:

What an amazing concept and lecture/video! It is giving me some inspiration today! Thanks!!!

  13. I don’t like the crowdsurf story about ‘getting a logo’ at all. Let me explain. You have lots of sites like that where people need a logo for their company and let people, freelance designers work

  14. I don’t like the crowdsurf story about ‘getting a logo’ at all. Let me explain. You have lots of sites like that where people need a logo for their company and let freelance designers work for a very small amount of money. If you are desperate as a graphic designer you will take those jobs. Graphic designers have to interpetate a little piece of text on the screen and make an awsome logo. I would rather choose to sit around the table with that person, look them in the eyes and ask specific questions about the desires. Instead of quessing what the person wants and send a logo each time, which often times gets rejected because the client want something else what’s not easy to describe in a few words. A logo is not just a little text or image, but it represents your company, that’s why it’s better to talk with someone face to face about the colors, the sphere, the target, everything! (*sorry if my english is not perfect, but I’ll hope you’ll understand)

  15. dakira says:

WTF? Work is work and work needs to be paid. Having 10 people design you logo and just paying one leaves nine people with unpaid work. Crowdsourcing works well in areas where people are voluntarily working for free (like opensource software projects), but commercial logo design?

Imagine if you would have a house built after your specs by 10 architects and only pick and pay for one. There were actual costs for building the other 9. Just as there are costs for designing logos. God I hate business people.

  16. Steve Light says:

I disagree with you Joann, you wouldn’t crowdsource for legal advice as it’s a totally different ball game. You can’t practice law from your bedroom is the same way that any one with a bit of creativity and skill can design a logo. This is the future and I’m glad people are waking up to the fact that they don’t have to pay 5-10k for a logo.

The other comment from Dakira, saying that you hate business people, what kind of comment is that? You say that a logo tournament is like a group of architects all designing the plans and then the best is picked, sorry to disagree but a logo can be created in 30 minutes, An architect could not do that no matter how skilled.
